INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES

The premise of “Raiders of the Deep®” is based on the concept already developed by three or more other online sub sim communities, one called the Pacific Thunder Campaign , built around the original Silent Hunter, the other two “Iblitz” (now shut down) and Atlantik! Campaign built around Silent Hunter II and Wolves at War a dedicated Silent Hunter III campaign community . While there is no official connection between communities, Raiders owes itself creatively to the great bunch of people working at these other communities and campaigns.

However, unlike the others, we at Raiders present the Silent Hunter II and III game as a re-enactment of history, mixing fun with learning making it as real as it gets.

To participate all you need is, of course, a copy of Silent Hunter II and /or a copy of Silent Hunter III to register with the name of a real U-Boat Commander (to set the mood of the game), and a valid email address. You can register for both campaigns.

Silent Hunter II patrols are created by our Admin team, are based on historic events and dates, and kept as close to historical accuracy as the confines of Silent Hunter II and the mission generating programme allows. The home page of the Raider's website will advise the campaign status and game timeline. A patrol for that timeline will be issued accordingly .

In the Silent Hunter III campaign however, you will be in “ career” mode and you will be receiving orders from the FdU SH III Campaign as well as follow the requirements by the directives issued through the Raiders.

When a new member reports for SH II duty, they are sent to the training flotilla before being assigned their own U-boat and ‘frontline' flotilla. Members do not have to play every mission, and may take as long as needed to complete a mission. If you do take a break, let your FC know so we can post your Boat in Dry Dock, until you return.

New members reporting for SH III duty are to access the training academy link in SH III and complete the first training session. Then advise the FdU SH III Campaign of completion. If you do take a break, let the FdU SH III Campaign know so we can post your Boat in Dry Dock, until you return .

The main objective of the U-boats was to attack Britain's vital arteries, that is, to sink as much mercantile shipping as possible, to cripple and starve the island nation into defeat. Attacks on any vessel sailing beneath a neutral country's flag are strictly forbidden, regardless of its location within a patrol zone. Check your targets as offending captains will face swift and severe repercussions up to and including demotion, reduction of career tonnage credit and transfer to a second-line flotilla!

On occasions, attacks directed towards convoy escorts and other warships are authorized, usually in the mission orders, and credit will be awarded for the sinking of a warship. However, unauthorised and unnecessary attacks against warship are strongly discouraged due to the increased risk to the U- boat. A player who continues to go out of their way to attack convoy escorts will be labelled as a Head-hunter and will shunned by both man and beast until the end of all eternity, and “maybe” assigned to a type IIB boat until said commander starts hunting more suitable targets.

Honesty is the Best Policy. Members are expected to play all missions at 100% realism, though external view is allowed if desired, this setting will not be used to help sink ships.
SH III settings will be provided . Not playing your mission at this level can lead to reduction of tonnage, rank and possible reassignment within the campaign. Inflated statistics aren't hard to notice, especially by the mission writers. So please, play the missions honestly. Not doing so takes away from the campaign and especially the people who do stick to the Guidelines.

Due to playing the missions at 100% realism, it is expected members will need to save their game many times. However, choosing not to save in order to start-over from a previous, more advantageous point is not acceptable. To replay a mission for a better result, either tonnage or to not be destroyed, is considered dishonourable.

Should a mission end in a player being ‘captured' or destroyed, then the player is to send a Personal Message, with the date, time and location of the capture or destruction, to their Flotilla Commander or FdU SH III Campaign for SH III players . If the U-boat captain goes down with his boat, then both will be listed as KIA, and the player chooses another Commander's name. If the captain is captured, then manages to escape and return to his flotilla, he will be assigned a new U-boat.

At the end of a mission, the U-boat commanders write and submit a report of their patrol, summarizing their successes and any other information they wish, which they then post in the forum. The results of each commander are compiled within their flotilla and then the rest of the fleet, much as they were during the war, showing the overall results of the campaign. Again players are expected to be honest in their reporting, reflecting true results.

Silent Hunter II and III Campaign p romotions and medals will be awarded following a standard list of criteria , so just being a “tonnage king” does not always mean instant rewards. In fact, deliberate attacks on escort vessels or being a “head hunter” will reflect negatively on your upward progress through the ranks. Awards will be based on the number of missions played, the number of safe returns and not based on the tonnage score (aka your skill with your boat), the results of patrols as well as overall participation in Raiders of the Deep's campaign.

To be fair to all Raiders of the Deep participating members, the awards system within both Silent Hunter II and Silent Hunter III programs will not have any bearing on the awards process conducted within Raiders of the Deep. It will be at the discretion of the BdU upon recommendation.

There is no actual chain of command within Raiders, with BdU being the administrative team as a whole, and not just one person as ‘the boss'.

Members of “Raiders of the Deep” may be active players in any and all other Silent Hunter II and III campaigns. Raiders neither endorses not criticises any other SH II and SH III campaigns in any way. Raiders' Admin requests that all players remain respectful and courteous to all online communities, especially in forums, and to fellow Raiders. Contact your FC , FdU or the BdU if you feel a Raiders' player is behaving inappropriately.

Negative, antagonistic, racist or derogatory remarks against other players or online communities posted in any forum (i.e. flaming) will not be tolerated. Members of “Raiders of the Deep” risk suspension or immediate expulsion for such actions.
